On January 2nd, 2021, the Texas Workforce Commission, under the guidance of the Department of Labor began disbursement of an extra $300 in unemployment benefits. With the extension of the Continued Assistance for Unemployed Workers Act of 2020, CARES Act benefits have been extended from December 26, 2020 to March 13, 2021.
In total, the act provided an additional 11 weeks of unemployment assistance. Those eligibly unemployed affected by Coronavirus job loss will receive their $300 payment in addition to their regular unemployment benefits for up to 50 weeks through the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance fund, 24 weeks through the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation fund or the March 13, 2021 deadline, whichever comes first. Eligible parties will be automatically enrolled by the Texas Workforce Commission. Work search requirements will not be affected by this legislation.
