Galveston saw cruise embarkations reach nearly 1 million in 2018, according to a biennial study from Cruise Lines International Association.
There were 985,000 embarkations at the Port of Galveston in 2018, a 13.3 percent increase from 2016 and up 126 percent since 2010. That makes Galveston one of the few ports nationwide to increase embarkations in each of the two-year periods since 2010, per the CLIA report.
Galveston remains firmly in the No. 4 spot nationwide for total embarkations. It represents 7.8 percent of all U.S. cruise embarkations.
Texas also holds steady as the No. 3 state in terms of the economic benefits it receives from the global cruise industry, per the report. Cruise industry direct expenditures in Texas increased by 6.2 percent in 2018 to $1.51 billion, behind Florida with nearly $8.5 billion and California with $2.5 billion.
