The city is making a bid for a government grant to improve sidewalks and disability access in its downtown district.

The city has applied for a $350,000 community development block grant to build new sidewalks, handicap ramps, accessible parking spaces, drainage improvements and to install light poles in the downtown district.

“It’s all part of our efforts to build and create a walkable hub in downtown La Marque,” city spokeswoman Colleen Merritt said.

The city is applying for the grant through the Texas Community Block Grant Program, which is administered through the Texas Department of Agriculture.
