The largest man-made lagoon in Texas is fast taking shape in Texas City.
The beginnings of a 12-acre, man-made lagoon stretch out across land near Interstate 45, a testament to the large aspirations of the developers behind the Lago Mar subdivision, west of the highway near the Holland Road exit.
After opening the first home in 2017, builders have sold about 400 homes that are now occupied and about 500 already have been constructed, said Tim Johnson, director of marketing and communications for Land Tejas, the developer behind the subdivision.
Developers hope the 2,033-acre subdivision will eventually feature 4,400 homes and more than 14,000 residents when it’s built out, Johnson said.
“We have big plans for Lago Mar,” Johnson said.
