Hitchcock, one of Galveston’s County communities directly in the path of future industrial growth received a huge boost to workforce training today when it was announced that Texas City’s College of the Mainland’s Opening Doors Promise Scholarship program is now open to Hitchcock High School students.
“With $40,000 in donations from the Hitchcock Economic Development Corp., Associated Credit Union of Texas and the Hitchcock Independent School District’s Education Foundation, the college can expand its program to 2020 graduates of Hitchcock.”
Through the scholarship, every qualifying student will be able to attend the college full-time with all tuition and fees covered for fall 2020.
The city of Hitchcock is located on FM 2004, on the western side of Galveston County. Its vast swatch of undeveloped industrial land lay equidistant between the ports of Texas City, Galveston, Houston and Freeport. Every day, tens of thousands of trucks and other commercial vehicles pass through its borders.
